Dear students and parents:

My name is Mrs. Ocasio.  I am a born teacher and always knew I would be one.  I could feel the passion in my heart going back since I was in Kindergarten.  My passion is in my classroom with my students. 

I have been teaching for over 30 years and love it more each day. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY in the big apple and moved to the Washington DC area in 1984.  My parents are from Puerto Rico--so I am Bilingual.  Being raised in NY gave me the opportunity to experience many areas of multiculturalism which in term has helped me bring this important daily experience into my classrooms. 

My greatest contributions to helping students learn are being able to meet their learning styles, and differentiating instruction.  From the first day of class, I seek to understand who my students are, their personal knowledge, skills and talents by having them take multiple intelligent test, and learning style evaluations that pertain to their personality, home life, and learning styles--this allows me to personally get to know my students better in order to help them meet their personal goals, academic needs, and prepare them for college.  This year I will be teaching Principles of Business and Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Word Processing.    

I been married for 30 years to a wonderful husband and father. I have two daughters Jennie and Jessica.  They both graduated from Marymount University in Arlington.  My oldest daughter Jennie is an Interior Designer and Jessica my youngest earned her masters degree at University of Tampa in education. This will be her second year teaching Kindergarten at Featherstone Elementary school.  She is also a coach here at Stonewall H.S. for the JV cheerleading team.    

I also have one brother and he is a professional Latin musician. He plays the Spanish guitar, and he has been with the same band for over 20 years.  The band plays good Salsa and Merengue that I enjoy dancing to.  He also came out in a movie with Mark Anthony and Jennifer Lopez called "El Cantante."    

I enjoy staying happy, smiling, and teaching my students every day. I look forward to a successful year.
